anyway, the challenger made some dishes, they were very fancy looking but the judges didn't like their taste.
then it was iron chef mario batali's time to be scored. he made some pretty good looking stuff. made me wish i had smellavision. at any rate, one of the judges after tasting a dish asked mario for a hug, because it was so good. but what really took the cake was what the female judge said. it went something like this:
"I learned a new term the other day, foodgasm. And I have to say, I think i'm having one right now."
I swear, I laughed so hard, I may have peed a little.

Jesse,
What do you think about the Iron Chef America? I haven't watched it yet, mostly because I believe the true entertainment value of Iron Chef lies in the voice-overs, which would not happen with the American version.
I do think, however, that the original Iron Chef uses ingredients that are far too exotic for my kitchen (like eel), so I have been curious as to whether the American version would be any better in that respect. What's your take on the show?

I haven't seen Iron Chef America nearly as many times as i've seen the original, and while i agree that it isn't as entertaining as the original in the sense that anything poorly dubbed is funny, it's still quite good. Alton Brown, the main commentator, is funny and i like his detailed explanations of what's going on. And as you said, the 'key ingredient' isn't as freakish, and the styles of cuisine closer to something i might attempt, that as a cook i actually feel like i'm learning something useful.
