now that i am decided and excited about my newest career choice, i can't find a good place to take the next step. i knew that the higher educational opportunities in hawaii were limited, but i didn't know it was this bad. so far, i can only find one place that offers a program that allows you to go straight into a bsn without already being an RN, and it's in the middle of downtown honolulu, what would likely be about an hour's commute from home. deciding this was a bit much, that i didn't really need a bsn to start working and didn't want to wait up to 4 years to finish it, i started looking into getting an associate's degree instead. 'surely there will be several community college options closer to me i can explore,' i told myself.
well, i was answered with a big fat NOPE. i could only find one community college that offered an associate's degree that did not already require you to be an LPN, and shock of shocks, it was even further away than the school offering the BSN. BUT, it would only take 2 years (relatively speaking, since i can't start until jan of next year) instead of the 3 (again, relatively speaking) for the BSN, and the hours are such that the time i'm commuting might not be smack in the middle of rush hour. either way, i have until june to get my application in, plenty of time to decide which i want to do.
or, plenty of time to decide to support myself by selling homemade potholders.
