ok, probably they actually don't and it just feels like it. since my little self-loathing rant last week, i've exercised every day except one, and that time i legitimately just forgot about it until i was already clean and showered for the night. so far things are going ok, it's been a good wakeup call to see how challenging a 20 minute pilates routine can be for me just because i'm in such bad shape. at the end of the routine the ladies on the video look like they've just woken up from a restfull nap, and i look like i've just been forced to run a marathon at gunpoint. but i think it's already getting easier. the hard part is going to be reducing my snacking, which i will hopefully do by getting a job or something where i'm not so bored at home. or actually using some willpower.
i do have some criticisms of the videos though, beyond denise austin's 'so soothing it's irritating as all get out' voice. one, is that as the exercises are done laying down, most of the time, i can't actually see the video to follow along without craning my neck to some really uncomfortable position. the other is that while it is aerobic for me at this point, and it's gonna give me killer abs (for those that don't know, doing pilates is almost entirely about the abs, it's like a contorted situp that lasts 20 minutes), it's only aerobic for 15 minutes or so, which is not gonna be enough to uncover those killer abs from it's current fatty sheath, and it's not doing much of anything for my arms and lower legs. so my plans are gonna have to diversify.
what i really want to do is raquetball, you can play by yourself if you have to (which i most likely will,) it's really aerobic, you use your arms and lower legs, and you get the beat the living crap out of that little rubber ball. any sport where you get to hit something is automatically fun. now i just need to find someplace to do it.
