apparently, the house also comes with a spontaneously forming pond

I don't yet know whether it was a freak of nature or a preview of winter hawai'i style, but sustained heavy rains yesterday morning and afternoon turned our yard into a wading pool. you can't tell that well from the picture, but the water is about 5 inches deep at points, and this wasn't even the final score. surprisingly, the soil here is very absorbant and drains very rapidly, so i'm glad i didn't run out and get any fish to toss in. this is the worst we've seen so far, but earlier this week in the manoa valley, cars were tossed into trees, historical monuments were taken out, and the U of H had to cancel classes for half the week due to water and mud damages, thanks to flash flooding. glad i live on a hill.

hm, I prefer the ocean Posted by Hello

On the plus side, yesterday was the first day by my pampered standards that was cool enough to not use the air conditioner at all. i even took a hot shower last night to warm up, instead of the usual cold shower to cool down. seb even used the quilt, the poor skinny thing.

of course today is back to being gorgeous and sunny, but still cooler than it has been... i'm starting to get hopeful about the mild winter weather. as evidenced by this pic, we have got our digital camera back up and running, so, look for a post with a link soon to take you to new pics of the house (with furniture!) as well as other hawaiian treats.
