Happy New Year!

we celebrated rather tamely last night by going to a friend's house, munching on some appetizers, and playing a game of spades. then we drove home about an hour before midnight, and the air was already thick with smoke from the fireworks. i guess a broader array of fireworks are legal for private purchase and use here in hawaii, and i saw some of the kinds of displays we used to have to go to Springfield or St. Louis to see right from my bedroom window. it is convenient in that sense, but i really don't appreciate having to have the house sealed up to keep all the smoke out. it gets really thick to where just the house across the street seems hazy. luckily Caleb seemed to sleep right through it all.

he also turns 3 months old today. he celebrated that by turning 180 degrees in his crib again.

caleb has a turtle night light his nana gave him that puts constellations on the ceiling. for now, we are using it to gauge his growth visually. here is a picture of him with his night light turtle at 1 month old:at two months:

and here he is with the same turtle at three months, taken today:

he looks just a little bit bigger, but not a ton. we weighed him yesterday, he was about9.5 pounds, one pound more than he was at 2 months. so he's gaining, but he isn't gaining 'on the curve,' something we largely blame on his tendency to throw up alot and often. so we may be going to the doctor sooner than his 4 month appointment to see if we can't do something about that and make sure the little guy is getting (and keeping) everything he needs.
