anticipation, an-ti-ci-pa-a-tion.....

this past week, caleb showed us some signs that he really has been paying attention and is trying to figure things out.

the first sign was that after about 3 days on his medicine (which he likes, yummmm, orange,) when he saw me holding the dropper, he would open his mouth real wide.

the second sign was one i had hoped for for some time: i have a breastfeeding pillow, called the brest-friend, that has a buckle so you can put it on and get up and move around with it. which is handy, and as one friend with the same thing put it, makes you look like you're ready for the pool. now, when caleb sees me put it on, he knows what's coming, and calms down from his 'i'm hungry' fussing.

the third was that he also started to figure out that a meal was coming when he got wrapped up in his swaddler he goes to bed in, and would cease his post-bath fit, a scream-a-thon which occurs without fail as soon as i start to dry him off, and had until now lasted until i started to feed him. tonight and last night he actually smiled as soon as he was wrapped up.

and the fourth, and this one is no help to me, is that tonight he started said fit while still in the tub just because he saw me getting the towel ready.

i don't think i'm ready for him to start getting smart. but it least it shows that we've been providing him with some reliable routines.

i've been having fun playing dress-up with him the past few days, because of the move into new clothes and also because it's been cold here (that means in the sixties at night, highs in the seventies) which sends us searching for our long pants and long sleeved shirts, wusses that we have become in the tropics. here is caleb, looking like he's ready for a romp in a pile of autumn leaves. (i wish.)
