so tired i can't rub my own eyes

yesterday caleb and i were reading one of his books, and came across a puppy that was sleeping. he has been picking out 'sleeping' animals for a long time now, and has even started letting us know when he is feeling sleepy with signing. but this still took me by surprise. 

caleb- points to puppy, signs 'sleep'

me- "that's right, the puppy is sleeping."

caleb- rubs eyes, the way he normally does when he's tired

me- "oh, caleb, are you getting tired? mommy's tired, too"

caleb- turns to look at me, puts his fist up and then rubs my eye

he repeated this several times, he'd never used eye rubbing as an intentional sign before, and i'm not even sure that's what he was doing - but it's good to know, if i get too tired, caleb's got my back, i mean, my eyes :)
