but a few weeks ago i realized he was now one of the oldest and more mobile babies up there, and since i wasn't nursing him there and had to stop him from flinging books and cars onto other, much smaller babies a few times, i realized it was time to suck it up and start the nursery. gradually.
last sunday seb went in with him, my biggest fear being that one of the older kids (they allow up to age 4) would bulldoze him or try to pick him up (older kids try that alot with him) and drop him. seb said all went well, but knowing that he is not the overprotective type, i had to see for myself. so today i went in with him, and pretty much as soon as i set him down he was off with just the occasional glance my direction.
i did have to rescue him a couple of times from a little girl who kept giving him a bear hug around the neck, caleb was the youngest one there and got all of her attention, but luckily i always got there before his face turned blue. she tipped over backwards with him once and he fell along with her, and though i could tell he was startled, he just got up and went about his business like it happened every day.
next week i think we'll give him a chance to go in without mommy or daddy. i give it 10 minutes.

Awww he is growing up!
When we arrived here on the mainland, we decided it was time to start Madeline in the nursery. (Here they have a nursery just for one year olds, so Kathleen goes to her "own nursery" for toddlers. It's a great set-up.) And Madeline did just great. I was the only one who cried that week! I sat through entire church services without children and it was like a new world. But then. Oh, but then. A couple of weeks ago Madeline just started refusing to go. She's fine as long as we're in there with her, but if we so much as set her down she begins crying. I do remember that Kathleen did this, and now she can't wait to go to the nursery (it's all she'll talk about on the 15 minute ride to church!), so I know if I hang in there, I'll go to church just me and my husband again someday. I just wonder whether it will before #3 turns, say, two!
Anyway, good luck. I understand the anxiety, and here's hoping sweet Caleb does better than my circus girls!
He'll do great on his own. He's a fairly independent little guy.
