but now that he is able to apply some imagination to his constructions, there is much more motivation to do so. i was cleaning up some dishes and heard caleb going 'way-o-way-o-way-o' (his general impression of ambulance, fire truck, or police car sirens.)
i figured he was looking through one of his richard scarry books again but when i looked he had put all of his rather small collection of megablocks together and was pushing it around like a car. i asked him what it was, and he signed 'hurt' and 'help' which means 'ambulance' to him.
it was fun to see him so proud of his creation, and also that he had not forgotten that someone had to drive said ambulance. the only problem was that zebras are ill-equipped for riding lego-cars. i watched caleb try about 4 times to re-construct his ambulance so zebra would have a stable seat, but he just couldn't do it.
when he started smashing it to bits in frustration, i helped a bit by starting him out with a much larger base (his original ambulance, that i didn't think to get a picture of, was a bit tower-like) and let him construct the rest. he was very mindful to leave an open space in the middle for the driver:
now all zebra needs is some opposable thumbs and he's good to go!

That's an awesome story!
It always amazes me how much our little guys understand.
