some new firsts

caleb has had a few 'firsts' over the past week:

on friday, he had his first home-cooked meal of some yummy pureed sweet potato.
at first he gobbled them right down, but after just a few bites, the new flavor overwhelmed him, and he decided he'd had enough. thankfully after a few more tries, and a more thinned out version, he took to them with enthusiasm. yesterday when i was carrying him in one arm and the bowl of food in the other, it was quite a trick to keep him from throwing himself to the ground from his efforts to reach the bowl!

on a food note, he also tried oats for the first time after succeeding with the sweet potato. again, he seems hesitant about a new taste, and was clearly not interested. hopefully persistence will pay off.

he also had his first Easter, and as he was not quite ready to graduate to cadbury cream eggs, i had to handle those myself ;). the best part for me was the worst part for him, that of getting to dress him up for his pictures:

we had a hard time getting him to smile that day though, and not because he didn't get any candy. it's because he is also well on his way to getting his first tooth! we can both see and feel one on his bottom jaw that we expect to be making a breakthrough any day now.

the last 'first' was the least expected, and one i partially think is due to the tooth, and partially due to great new blackout curtains: i actually had to wake him from his third nap today because he was sleeping too long! i really never thought i would see the day, but after a 1 hour morning nap and almost 2 hour 2nd nap, what is usually a 30 minute 3rd nap today went 90 minutes and was stopped to make sure it didn't mess up his night sleep.

caleb of course did not appreciate this, and greeted me with some fussing and a look of 'what are you doing?' before i squoked him into a playful mood.

after a week like that, it makes me wonder what 'first' will be next.
