we're ashamed

we've lived in hawaii for almost a year now, and i can count the number of times i've been to the beach on my fingers.

seb's record (because of his working) is even worse.

in an effort to rectify this problem, i'm trying to get us on somewhat of a routine. this sunday, we headed out early (since seb likes the evening church services better) to kailua beach park, which allows dogs. sol still hates the water, but he loves trips, and likes running up and down the beach. unfortunately, he was a complete basket case, antsy and restless and whining almost the entire time, which i blame on us for not taking him out to parks that often anymore. but it might have been lingering fears that he would be forced to face the ocean again.

it was a good day though, seb didn't even get in the water (it was windy and i think he was afraid of how cold he'd be soaking wet) but enjoyed laying in the breeze studying for boards. i liked the beach, but i'm used to actually boogy boarding or something when i'm in the ocean. at this beach, on that day, the waves were not strong enough for that, but too strong to really enjoy just swimming in either... so i just sort of bobbed around and floated and enjoyed feeling weightless, and watched the kite surfers zip along and hover in the air when they caught a good breeze.

sol calmed down and relaxed 10 minutes before we needed to leave... the little snot. hopefully, taking him more often will help these trips be less traumatic. maybe one day he'll even go to the ocean, and want to dive in.

we've only been to the beach 2x since we've been here in SC. we are spending three days there this weekend, however, so that should count for something
