on the plus side, the lawn is no longer infested with fleas from stray cats

so, in a week, a moving crew will show up to pack all our belongings into a truck and take them to tacoma, our next duty station.

in two weeks and a day, seb and I will pack the kids and a whole buncha other stuff you need to schlep when you've got young kids into the car and begin a twentyish day road trip to get ourselves to our new house at our next duty station, with stops to visit family and friends along the way.

part of the joy of this process has been dealing with the shed.

there wasn't much in the shed, some ladders, some gardening tools, the lawnmower, the kids' sleds. and, unfortunately, bird seed.

bird seed that apparently was perfect invitation for mice to inhabit the shed and poop EVERYWHERE. i'm not a neat freak about everything. there are cheerios under the coffee table right now that might be great at keeping noah happy while momma lies comatose on the couch for a few minutes tomorrow morning. but i cannot help the fact that my brain translates mouse nest into HANTA VIRUS so i had the self-imposed joy today of blasting everything in the shed with bleach. including a big bin (mousie central) with a 2 inch layer in bottom of a potting soil/mouse poop mixture. that was half a bottle of bleach right there.

adding to this fun was the fact that wasps also called the shed home, with nests hidden inside of things like patio umbrellas that had me flinging bleach bottles into the air and running, screaming, around the backyard like a lunatic. i'd wait for them to decide to leave me alone and then timidly go back to spray some more bleach. i wussed out and had seb take over the wasp eradication duties.

so for the next week or so, aside from continuing to bleach mouse-grimed belongings and fleeing angry wasps, i'll be sorting, packing, cleaning, un-assembling, and planning. i already have way too many things i wanted to do that i know at this point won't be done, but isn't that how it usually goes?

by the way, anyone with experience driving their kids cross country (i know there's at least one of you out there) with any tips and advice, you're more than welcome to share it!

I CANNOT believe you are going to Tacoma and I am leaving the country. You KNOW that is where my BIL is, right? UGH. I cannot believe I am missing YOU. I cannot believe I missed you when we drove through TN. Here is my best driving advice. Start earlier rather than 1030am...like btw 8 and 9am. No one is grumpy pants yet, including the adults. We don't do much video. If you don't do it already DO NOT START. Drive until lunch...get a good 3 to 4 hours in. Then, drive in the afternoon a couple of hours during nap time. Plan your hotels ahead of time in major cities. Some in the midwest are not so close together. I think you may already be in WA, right?
