determination

just over 9 (NINE!) years ago when we got married, seb (and i do mean seb) received a wedding gift from our friends that, well, let's just say it's not something you'd see on a typical gift registry.

it was a 12,000 piece, 4.5' x 9' puzzle. of this:

thankfully it was broken into manageable thirds, but it still took seb (and i do mean seb) several years to complete.

once it was finished, the real work began - negotiations on just what to do with a 4.5' x 9' puzzle. just taking it apart and starting over was out of the question. we were willing to display it, but finding enough wall space to hang a 4.5' x 9' anything is not an easy task, and then we had the issue of how to mount the thing.

seb initially wanted to try to make a custom single frame, but that quickly became an impractical idea for many reasons, not the least of which was that it would likely be destroyed by a single move, and we knew we had many many moves still ahead of us.

i tried to get him to just take a picture of it and let it go - but a person with the determination to complete a 12,000 piece puzzle is also likely a person with determination enough to find a way to keep it.

and so he did.

hung very carefully by seb and his dad, this now graces our entryway and has already wowed almost everyone to step through our front door. not as amazing as the efforts that created the original, but still pretty impressive if you ask me ;)
