solomon, the biggest little chicken

just in case we'd forgotten what a fraidy-cat our dog is, he's been reminding us this week.

we took him to the annual pet-walk sponsored by the humane society last sunday. instead of being overjoyed at the prospect of getting to hang out with a bunch of other dogs (although there were cats, birds, rodents, and reptiles as well), he totally freaked out. we didn't get him more than 10 feet into the crowd before he stubbornly planted his feet and refused to go any further, unless it was away from the crowd. it took him a long time but he eventually calmed down enough to participate, though we had to keep him in an open enough group so he wouldn't freeze up.

on top of being a chicken, he also has some pretty messed up priorities.

as some of you may know, he is deathly afraid of the vacuum. i was cleaning house today, and it was at the bottom of the stairs as i took a short break (turned off.) he had stayed upstairs, and now stood on the landing whining about the vacuum's position (though he could have easily walked past it). i tried to get him to come down (because we want to break him of this stupid fear) and used every temptation i could think of... 'squirrel,' 'chicken,' 'daddy's home,' 'mailman,' 'eat,' and 'stranger.' i even tried ringing the doorbell, laying on the floor pretending to be hurt (which he usually responds to) and tried getting him to walk down the stairs beside me. you know what finally got him to bolt down the stairs, past the vacuum like it didn't exist?

kitty, kitty, kitty.

stupid dog.

Wow. He is special. So, was he responding to being called "kitty" or was he thinking that there was a kitty you were calling to?
